We would like to update parents and guardians on a social media post that has been misinterpreted across the nation. When we learned of this initial post that had a school named Southwest on it, we immediately contacted our school resource officers, Officer Huse & Officer Conn. Upon investigating, we were informed that there is an underperforming list of Georgia schools circling around Snapchat. The “targeted assistance” list included a school named Southwest Middle School that was to receive targeted academic supports. Unfortunately, the misinformation led to some putting this information on social media with the wrong information and context. At no point were Albert Lea Area Schools identified nor in danger. We will continue to make our students and staff our top priority by ensuring their safety. We value and appreciate the support from Albert Lea Police Department and Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and will continue to partner with them to ensure the safety of students and staff members.
Thank you for your continued support of the Albert Lea Area Schools.
Dont forget to check out our Southwest Volleyball Team take on Waseca today at 4:15 here at Southwest.
Just to clarify. There are NO TICKETS AND NO COST to attend Southwest events. Tickets are only for high school activities.
We do ask that students in grades 7 and under are accompanied by a parent/guardian to any Albert Lea School sponsored event, including Southwest activities.

Keep up with all things Southwest by checking out this week's Tiger Talk:

Announcing the 2024-2025 SWMS Core Values!
We are excited to share the Four Core Values selected by our Southwest Middle School students for the upcoming school year:
Responsibility
Determination
Show Ownership
Be a Positive Leader
This journey began with each of our 28 advisory classes selecting three to four values they believed were essential. The next day, one representative from each advisory class gathered in the media center, working within their teams to narrow down the choices. Finally, a representative from each team came together to select our school’s core values for the year.
These values will guide us every day here at Southwest, and we encourage you to talk with your student(s) about how they are demonstrating these values in their daily lives. Let’s work together to make this a fantastic year!
